Join other individuals, families, and caregivers affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D) at all life stages for a day of education and connection at the TypeOneNation Summit. Talk to experts about research advances, meet with other attendees to exchange ideas, and participate in discussions important to you.

This unique event will offer a half day of outreach and education for our local type one diabetes (T1D) community and will include an amazing lineup of keynote speakers:

  • Keynote Speaker AM: Anastasia Albanese-O'Neill, PhD, ARNP, CDE. Assistant Clinical Professor, Director of Diabetes Education and Clinic Operations Division of Pediatric Endocrinology, Department of Pediatrics at the University of Florida, T1D Mom.

  • Keynote Speaker PM: Bob Hawkinson; author, speaker, dedicated diabetes advocate, mentor and educator, has T1D.

The day will also include:

In addition, the event will also include a vendor fair with representatives from diabetes medical device companies, insulin manufacturers, diabetes day camps, local healthcare providers, and other diabetes related organizations. This event is designed for all ages at all stages and offers something for everyone: parents, children, teens, adults, grandparents, caregivers, school nurses, healthcare providers, and more.

We hope you will join us for this great day of educational and inspirational activities to help you and your loved ones better manage life with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Leading experts in research, technology, nutrition, and personal well-being will join JDRF to present updates and practical information to the local T1D community. The TrialNet team from University of Florida will be screening family members of people with type 1 diabetes through the Pathway to Prevention Study.

The test is offered at no cost. This simple blood draw that can identify autoantibodies that signal an increased risk of type 1 diabetes. These autoantibodies may show up years before symptoms appear. If testing shows an increased risk, you can be closely monitored and may be eligible to take part in clinical studies testing ways to slow down or... stop disease progression.

Who can be screened? Anyone between the ages of 1 and 45 with a sibling, child or parent with type 1 diabetes; or anyone between the ages of 1 and 20 with a cousin, half-sibling, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, niece, or grandparent with type 1 diabetes.

FAQs:

Is there a minimum age requirements to enter the event?

This event is open for all T1D's and their family members. Children between the ages of 5 - 12 are welcome to stay in our Children's Area where we will have a fun day of activities planned for them. Children 13 and older are welcome to attend the Summit with their parent(s) or chaperones.

Parking is free in the University Center's parking lot.
